The Kumkum Container, known in Tamil as Kunguma Chimizh, is a traditional vessel used for storing kumkum, a sacred red powder widely used in Hindu religious and cultural practices. Kumkum has long been regarded as a symbol of auspiciousness, devotion, prosperity, and feminine energy within Tamil society.
Today, antique kumkum containers are preserved as heritage artefacts that illustrate the religious customs, craftsmanship, and cultural practices of Tamil communities across South Asia.
